As one of the biggest stars in the entertainment industry. So, as you might expect, he has an expansive Rolodex, as he is connected to some of the top tastemakers in the industry.
After dropping a new song in homage to his kids titled Your Dad, the former WWE Champion recently sat down for a one-on-one with Rolling Stone.
When discussing his musical inspirations, Johnson credited several musical geniuses. Including Sam Cooke, Elvis, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and Johnny Paycheck. He described them as "Guys like that who just were on top of their genres."
Johnson also gave a special shout-out to country music legend Willie Nelson. He also revealed that he gave him his first guitar.
"You know the Trigger guitar he has? The historic one? I guess Martin only made 100 of those, and as a birthday gift, 'cause I was such a huge fan, he gave me one of those," The Rock recalled. "I mean, I play like dog s--- compared to him, but it's still a cool gift. Anyway, that's my musical start."
Johnson Discusses Motivation Behind Music Career
When discussing his motivation behind getting in the booth, the former wrestling star said that the decision was more about personal gratification.
"I've reached this point in my life and in my career where, honestly ... when I wake up in the morning, I swing my legs out of bed, and whatever the thing is that I'm doing, I wanna feel like I'm just running towards it," The Rock said as caught by Bleacher Report. "And the most gratifying things we do are when it's for us, because we have enough pressure to deliver for so many other entities.
The Rock has already achieved so much across the entertainment industry as a whole. Oscar-nominated actor, world heavyweight champion, and a social media superstar. There is no telling how far The Rock's music career will go. But everything else that he has tried his hand at has turned to gold. It will be interesting to see if his music career can garner the same success.
