Throwing objects at performers has become A Thing. That is unfortunate. Why fans choose to do it and risk someone being seriously hurt mid-concert is a mystery to me. Here are a few guesses as to what might be fueling this highly regrettable nonsense. Billy Strings is the latest casualty.

Why Do Fans Indulge in This Behavior?
Maybe people in the audience use this very questionable tactic to bring themselves to the attention of a singer. Therefore, they decide to hurl their phone right at the stage, hoping that the artist will scoop it up. Or perhaps they hope for 15 minutes of fame (15 seconds?) on social media when someone films the fling and posts it.
However, it's a dreadful, foolish idea to toss phones (or anything else) like projectiles directly toward a singer. In fact, just ask Riley Green, Morgan Wallen, Luke Bryan, or any of the other performers who have dealt with this antic. Unfortunately you can now add bluegrass artist Billy Strings to this infamous and growing list.
Someone Filmed the Incident
The incident involving Billy Strings was captured on video on X. He was playing at Fishers Event Center, which is located in Fishers, Indiana. The caption states, "Night 1 of 3 in Indiana and we got spun hillbilly [expletive] chucking stuff on stage (pre roll tube? Hot dog water cart?) and hitting Billy in the head You can see it come flying and bounce off his dome at :02 seconds"
Strings Was Incensed About Being Hit
You can clearly see the item bang Strings right on his head. In fact, he was justifiably upset and he let the crowd know it. Strings launched into quite an angry rant.
He said in part, "You know, why the [expletive] would you throw something at me? Is your [expletive] really that small? I was just getting ready to say how much I'm happy to be here, and I love you guys and all this [expletive] and then you throw something and it hits me right in the [expletive] head. Find out who that was and [expletive] them, please."
Furthermore, no wonder he was mad! Billy Strings spoke from his heart. Because his message should be heeded by anyone else who is contemplating pulling a stunt like this.
