Mary Ediga Rivera, the hilarious actress who played the iconic role of Ned Leeds' grandma on Spider-Man: No Way Home, has passed away. As reported by Deadline, she was 82.
An online obituary stated that she passed away on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She had been placed on life support after suffering a tragic stroke. TMZ reported that her doctors had explained to the family that she may not recover from the coma.
Following from that tragic news, the family had "made the difficult decision to remove her from life support". Her family said that she had "lived a good life", adding that they were the ones to push for her to be featured in the movie.
The obituary said of her role in Spider-Man, "She was very proud of this [acting] accolade."
It said that Rivera also served as a Missionary for the church in the past, with her having retired before her passing.
Rivera is survived by her husband, Alejandro Rivera, as well as her children: Carmela Jones, Paul Rivera, Edwin Rivera, Angela Kelly, and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Tributes have poured in for the legendary Spider-Man actress.
Commenters were quick to reference the iconic scene: one wrote, "My heart, we had just seen her on my rewatch marathon before [Brand New Day] had came out, Ned's abuelita," with another writing, "she gave us one of the funniest, warmest moments... gone but never forgotten."

And, in the scene, Rivera's character is seemingly unfazed by the whole thing. Lola even asks Andrew Garfield's Peter to grab a cobweb from the ceiling.
She spoke Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines, in the scene. This was a point of national pride for Filipinos everywhere. One comment describing her appearance as "pure Tagalog magic and heart".
