2-time NBA Champion Chris Bosh recently opened up about his battle with pulmonary embolism, better known as blood clots.
2-Time NBA Champion Reveals That He 'Almost Dropped Dead' in January
"I had an episode in January. I almost dropped dead pretty much and came back to life," he said to the outlet. "I'm not joking. Yeah. I had another pulmonary embolism. It was in January. I was in the hospital for a week."
He also sent a message to others who are dealing with the condition. And encouraged them to continue taking their prescribed medications.
"But take your medicine. So, I'm taking my medicine every day, taking care of myself every day, and watching it," he continued. "So, I mean, no symptoms came either, you know, so... Yeah, you got to deal with it for the rest of your life. I thought I was past it. I am not. So, you know, it's just making sure I stay on top of my regimen."
Bosh Gives Key Advice to Victor Wembanyama
Bosh was one of the most dominant big men that the league had ever seen. Unfortunately, his career was cut short due to a pulmonary embolism. He played his final game in February 2016.
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was dealing with a similar issue during the 2025 season. A deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. And he was subsequently sidelined for the remainder of that year. Thankfully, he was able to recover and help lead his team to the NBA Finals this past season.
Still, Bosh warns the rising star that he needs to stay on top of his regimen. And do so aggressively. Because according to Bosh, if a second incident occurs, it could end Wemby's career, only four seasons in.
"Take your medicine. Make sure that he's staying on top of his regimen to make sure that doesn't happen again because it only takes one more time," Bosh said when asked what advice he would give to Wemby. "It happened one more time for me; it happened twice, and I couldn't play anymore."
