Kidney stones induce one of the most painful experiences that humans can endure. Women who have experienced both often cite that passing kidney stones is more painful than childbirth.

Given how excruciating the removal process can be, it isn't surprising that Bret Michaels opted to postpone his tour while he dealt with the ailment.
According to a press release shared on his official website, the Poison frontman has been advised by doctors to take three to four weeks off to recover until a stent is removed following an "immediate complicated obstructing kidney stone surgery."
Michaels announced on Facebook that he underwent surgery on July 22 to treat the condition. Michaels sought medical attention after he "experienced severe kidney pain following his recent performance honoring our military heroes and their families" in Spokane, Wash., on July 18, per the release.
The legendary rocker was diagnosed the following day with "a complicated obstructing kidney stone," which required immediate surgery.
Normal kidney stones are difficult enough to manage. For a "complicated obstructing kidney stone," medical staffers had to perform extra measures to treat Michaels.

Michaels' physician, Abby Borhan, M.D., successfully placed a ureteral stent during the procedure, which remains in place.
"Due to the nature of Michaels' post-operative condition and underlying health factors (diabetes, lower back compression fracture), he is restricted from performing for the next three to four weeks. [He's] only prescribed light physical activity as part of his recovery," she said in a statement. "A ureteral stent causes significant internal friction, constant physical discomfort, and localized inflammation."
Borhan noted that Michaels' recovery is further complicated by his Type 1 diabetes.
"Because Type 1 Diabetes inherently compromises the immune system and impairs healing, he faces an exceptionally high risk of contracting a serious UTI or developing urosepsis, a blood infection, until the stent is removed," she added. "The demanding nature of a high-intensity tour schedule makes it impossible to maintain the sterile environments, strict hydration schedules, frequent rest, and precise blood glucose management required for his safe recovery."

With that said, Michaels will be on the mend for a bit as he recuperates.
The Poison lead singer released a statement thanking fans for their support.
"I'm forever grateful for the amazing medical treatment and ongoing medical attention throughout my personal life and career. I'm truly grateful for family, friends, fans, band, crew and promoters for their understanding. If all goes well, I'll hit the road late August. Back to delivering 1000% energy, intensity, and truly nothing but a good time," he said.
