Chaos ensued at a minor league baseball game after a fireworks malfunction sent sparks into the unsuspecting crowd on Thursday night.
During the Richmond Flying Squirrels' post-game celebration, fireworks began shooting across the field and into the stands at CarMax Park.
Footage of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing fans sprinting out of the arena and seeking shelter.
There were no reported injuries.
A Richmond Flying Squirrels spokesperson said they are working with Pyro Shows, the company behind the fireworks, to determine what caused the malfunction.
"First and foremost, we are thankful no one was seriously injured as a result of the fireworks malfunction that occurred after Thursday night's game," the spokesperson said in a statement in part. "The team is working with the Pyro Shows, tonight's dually licensed and insured vendor, to gather information on what caused the malfunction. And to ensure that a mishap like this does not happen again."
Pyro Shows released a statement following the scary incident at CarMax Park.
"Pyro Shows had a malfunction of pyrotechnic product at the Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball game tonight. Our technicians followed company protocol and immediately terminated the fireworks show. We are actively investigating the root cause of the malfunction. We will be working hand-in-hand with the fire department and safety officials to determine the root cause of the malfunction.
"Pyro Shows sincerely apologizes to all the fans and families in attendance during this distressing event. We extend our deepest apologies to the Flying Squirrels organization for this unfortunate incident," the statement continued.
"Safety has been the cornerstone of our organization for over 50 years. We will determine the root cause of this incident. And make the appropriate corrections to ensure this does not happen again."
Firework displays are a common practice at baseball stadiums. The Texas Rangers shoot fireworks out of the scoreboard each time a Rangers star hits a home run. Further down south, the Houston Astros conduct a massive fireworks show after each regular season and playoff win.
