Josh Duhamel is opening up about his Minnesota Doomsday cabin and how that prepared him for his role on Ransom Canyon. For one, Duhamel said he needed very little prep time to step into the Western. He's familiar with living off-the-grid.

He appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about living off the grid and how that has informed his acting work.
"Growing up in North Dakota, it's everywhere. It's all around us," he said. "And I have a cabin just on the other side of the border from North Dakota in Minnesota. Which is very ranch-like."
"You know, it's a cabin, there's a lot of property, there's a lot of land we gotta take care of," he continued. "So I kind of live this life anyway in a lot of ways. I don't have horses and cattle, but I do have tractors and all the equipment and stuff."
Josh Duhamel Opens Up
Duhamel said that the pitch from creator April Blair fit where he was in his life.
"Actually, when I talked to April Blair about this show three years ago, I was out there at my cabin, and I was sort of in the mood to do something like this. I think she caught me at the perfect time," he explained.
The actor enjoys the simplicity of living in an off-the-grid cabin.
"I make movies and TV shows, and I love it, I truly do love it, but I had this calling to go and really do things with my hands again — fix things, make things and just do the basic things that we take for granted," he said.
However, it has allowed him to get back to his roots.
He continued, "I'm really more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need in this world of massive technology, to do the basic things to provide for my family. That's really what it's about for me."
