Kenneth Bevan Jr., an assistant principal at Winter Springs High School, was arrested shortly after midnight on June 30 near the intersection of State Road 434 and Wekiva Springs Road in Longwood.

According to a Seminole County Sheriff's Office arrest report, Bevan had been asked to leave a nearby bar before deputies warned him not to ride his e-bike home.

Investigators said Bevan instead walked to a nearby 7-Eleven on State Road 434, where he bought a 12-pack of Budweiser.

Deputies watched as he placed the beer on the front of the e-bike and rode eastbound along the roadway.

Body camera footage released by authorities captured the moments officers stopped him.

"We told you that you were gonna get a DUI if you got caught driving that bike. Did you not remember?" a deputy says in the video.

Although Bevan appeared confused and told deputies he was simply trying to get home, officers informed him he could not continue riding the e-bike and instructed him to get off.

Deputies reported that Bevan swayed from side to side, had slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol.

During the encounter, a deputy questioned Bevan about his understanding of DUI laws.

Bevan offered to walk the bike home, but deputies proceeded with the arrest after he declined to perform field sobriety tests.

"Right now you're under arrest for driving under the influence, okay?" a deputy said in the footage.

To which Bevan responded, "On a bicycle?"

He was taken to the Seminole County Jail, where deputies said he refused to provide a breath sample. This is an offense under Florida law.

Authorities also cited him for riding the bicycle without the required front light during nighttime hours.

Bevan is an assistant principal at Winter Springs High School.

A spokesperson for the school district described the incident as a personal matter. They noted that it happened during the summer while Bevan was outside of his contract period.
