"It's with all the gratitude in my heart that I can say, after 32 years of living, it's time to hang up the cleats," Taylor wrote on Instagram. "Football gave me everything. All of my lifelong friendships. All of the adversity and life lessons It taught me along the way. Nothing else in this world breaks you down and teaches you who you are like the game of football does. The dog days and the relationships built within it are what's going to be missed the most."

Taylor's retirement statement then continued by thanking his family and friends.

"I've been blessed with family and friends around me the entire way that always had my back more than I ever deserved. Coaches, trainers, teammates.. I owe so much to so many for this journey. All love."

The 49ers then posted a short message on X.

"Trent Taylor has officially retired from the NFL," the franchise wrote. "Thanks for your time in the red & gold."

Trent Taylor Spent Seven Years in the NFL

Taylor was drafted by the 49ers with the 177th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, having impressed during his time at Louisiana Tech. Looking back, it's clear that Taylor's best season in the pros came during his rookie year. He played in 15 games that season, making 43 receptions for 430 yards.

Two more seasons with the 49ers followed. In 2021, Taylor moved to the Cincinnati Bengals, where he spent two seasons. Unfortunately, he was unable to capture the production that saw him make a strong impression as a rookie. He ended up playing 20 games across two seasons for Cincinnati.

In 2023, Taylor played 17 games for the Chicago Bears before he moved back to the 49ers in 2024. Unfortunately, an undisclosed injury kept Taylor out of the 49ers' rotation this past season.

Taylor dealt with multiple injuries throughout his career. However, there's no information as to whether those injuries played a role in his decision to retire.
