His mother Carol had confirmed he was taken into hospital just a week before his death for shingles. According to the Mayo Clinic, shingles is a viral infection that results in a very painful rash.

However, at the time, Carol had suspected "he may have been self-medicating following his diagnosis."

And, as reported by Page Six, his cause of death has been revealed as an accidental fentanyl overdose. This was confirmed by the Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's report following his passing.

At the time his death, the How to Eat Fried Worms star was living in a sober living home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The 'How to Eat Fried Worms' Star Enjoyed His Time as a Child Actor

Garrett may not be a name or a face you'll have heard of ever since his stint in acting as a child. His only two credits are in How to Eat Fried Worms, and in Barney's Colorful World, Live!.

But the reasons behind his acting departure following this were kept private. He did, however, recall enjoying his time acting in the hit movie, where he played the role of Plug.

In an interview with the Oklahoman back in 2006, he recalled learning a BMX trick from a stuntman. "There was one scene where we were riding on a gravel road and got to slide to a stop. The guys who could ride worked on that scene," he recalled.

"They had a camera on the ground, and in one scene I slid and gravel hit the camera. They really liked that shot, and that's the one they used in the movie."

The movie was a successful one, with the cast having won Best Young Ensemble in a Feature Film at the 2007 Young Artists Awards.

We hope that this information can give his family some peace. Rest in peace to Blake Garrett.
