A Missing Boeing 737 Has Been Found After Vanishing Mid-Flight

A plane carrying five crew members mysteriously disappeared off the coast of Pakistan this week.

The flight was bound for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan, when it descended rapidly and lost contact with air traffic controllers.

The Boeing 737 vanished off the radar at 9:21 PM local time on Tuesday, July 7, the Pakistan Airports Authority wrote in a 

statement.

Following an extensive 12-hour search, Pakistani authorities located the cargo plane that went missing while flying over the Arabian Sea.

Authorities said it was recovered 53 nautical miles south of Ormara, a port city on Pakistan's Arabian coast.

The K2 Airways Boeing 737 disappeared from radar about 80 minutes into its two-hour flight from Sharjah, UAE, to Karachi, Pakistan.

Data from Flightradar24 placed the freighter in a drop of about 5,000 feet in less than a minute, followed by a climb of roughly 6,000 feet in 30 seconds and then a steep dive from 36,550 feet towards sea level.

Typically, an aircraft does not descend faster than 3,000 feet per minute.

A search-and-rescue operation was conducted at sea by various agencies, the Pakistan Airports Authority said. Wreckage photos show parts of the fuselage, tail, and other systems.

Tragically, the five crew members on board perished in the crash.

Pakistan has witnessed some severe plane crashes in the past two decades. In 2020, an Airbus A320 crashed near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, killing 98 people.

In 2019, a Pakistan Army military plane crashed into a city in the country's northern city of Rawalpindi. Five crew members and 13 civilians were killed in the fatal crash.
