Mark Chesnutt Pays Tribute to Bandmate Dave Sirmon
Chesnutt posted an emotional tribute on Facebook, reflecting on both Sirmon's musicianship and friendship.
"I lost my buddy Dave Sirmon Saturday night while on the road," he said. "Dave played bass guitar in my band. He was a great musician and friend. He was such a hard worker and very hands-on with everything on the road."
"He was somebody I could really depend on not only for playing music but for every aspect of the road. Advice, music, songs, the bus. Everything. He was quiet but so funny with a great sense of humor."
Chesnutt described Sirmon as "the perfect country gentleman" and an "amazing man."
He also called him "one of the most positive people" he had ever known, adding that his friend never complained despite the demands of life on the road.
Wife Confirms Musician Died in His Sleep
Chesnutt ended his tribute by writing, "He will always ride with us in spirit and in heart. We will miss you, brother."
Sirmon's wife, Louise, also confirmed the news in a post shared on his Facebook page.
"Clearly the word is spreading," she wrote. "This is Dave's wife Louise and I am so very sorry to anyone finding out about Dave's passing via this post or any other social media."
"He did pass away in his sleep last night on the tour bus."
Louise said she plans to share details of a memorial service in the coming weeks and thanked everyone who had reached out with messages of support.
Sirmon officially joined Chesnutt's touring band as its bass player in April 2024.
In addition to performing, he worked as a recording engineer, stage manager, and operated his own internet radio station, Music Holler Radio.
The exact location of his death has not been disclosed, although Chesnutt performed at the 4th of July Throwdown in Cleburne, Texas, on Saturday.
