"Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he's receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital," the statement said, via The New York Post. "The senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session."

McConnell, 84, was reportedly found unconscious at his home in Washington, D.C. It is believed that he may have suffered a heart attack. The long-time senator's latest hospital stay comes just months after he was previously admitted to a medical facility with flu-like symptoms.

"Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has said he has spoken to McConnell since his hospitalization and that the senator was "dialed in" on their conference's legislative business," The New York Post reports.

As such, there is likely hope that McConnell will be out of the hospital in the near future. However, there's still no update on the severity of his medical issues. Nor whether he will be able to return to his role in the Senate.

Mitch McConnell Has Already Announced His Retirement

McConnell, the longest-serving U.S. senator in history, recently announced his retirement. According to Fox News, he's set to leave his office in January 2027.

"Representing our commonwealth has been the honor of my lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time," McConnell announced on the Senate floor, via NBC News. "My current term in the Senate will be my last."

McConnell's announcement continued by noting that he still had some "unfinished business to attend to."

"So lest any of our colleagues still doubt my intentions for the remainder of my term. I have some unfinished business to attend to," McConnell said. "Regardless of the political storms that may wash over this chamber, during the time I have remaining, I assure our colleagues I will depart with great hope for the endurance of the Senate as an institution."

Hopefully, McConnell is making a full recovery from his latest health issues. Furthermore, hopefully, he will be able to see out the remaining few months of his tenure as Kentucky senator.
