Florida Woman Shoots Army Veteran Dead Over Walmart Parking Spot

The veteran and the woman had been in a heated argument. Police explained the case is being investigated, and the woman might not be charged.

An Army veteran has tragically died after being shot during an altercation. As reported by the New York Post, he was named as 62-year-old Bart Diguglielmo. He was a Staff Sergeant with the Army before he retired.

The tragic argument broke out in front of a Walmart in North Lauderdale, Florida, at around 12:30pm local time on Tuesday, June 30. Cell phone footage shows a heated argument that had broken out between the two over a parking space outside of the store.

Footage obtained by WPLG Local 10 showed the alleged dispute. It shows the woman hopping out of her car with a gun in her hand before the two argued with each other. He walked toward her as she aimed the gun, before the fatal shot was fired.

Witnesses recalled the incident, with one bystander, David Anderson, explaining, "I was walking up and heard a lady screaming... She was screaming and she was saying a lot of things."

Diguglielmo was transported to a local hospital, Broward Health Medical Center, where he later tragically succumbed to his wounds.

Shoppers also said she had become hysterical when police came. Police explained she later claimed she had shot the veteran in self-defense.

The Broward County State Attorney's Office haven't determined whether the woman should be charged yet. The incident is under active investigation at this time.

The Veteran Was Involved in Operation Desert Storm

Diguglielmo's sister, who talked with CBS News Miami but didn't say her name, described him as a decorated veteran.

He had served several years as a combat nurse and a combat medic. He was also a tactical communications expert, according to his Facebook profile.

His sister added he also did non-combat work as a nurse, where he had practiced for over 30 years. She said, "He was a Christian man and a very good person and would not hurt anyone." She also explained that she was devastated by his loss.

This is a truly tragic situation. May the veteran rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this tragic time.
