"I can live with it, in a sense. I'm sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing," Glover said.
When speaking with PEOPLE for an exclusive interview (which included Danny himself) Mandisa, Danny's daughter, noted that the veteran actor has spells of lucidity. "I think he's aware sometimes and then sometimes not," Mandisa said.
Danny, speaking with PEOPLE, was honest regarding coming to terms with the diagnosis. He noted that he's yet to fully accept the situation he now lives in.
But there are also times when he speaks lucidly. "I'm still not accepting in my mind all parts of it," Danny told PEOPLE. "There are the moments that you keep remembering that validate the fact that you can remember stuff. And there are moments I'll never forget."
The veteran actor, 79, received the diagnosis in 2023. He's battled the illness in secret for multiple years. However, after a string of interviews, he appears ready to share his struggles with the world.
Danny Glover Deserves To Control His Own Narrative
When speaking on the Today Show, Mandisa admitted that Danny deserves to control his own narrative. As such, opening up about his illness will allow everyone close to him to be honest when asked about his health.
"I think it's really important for him to have control of his own narrative, of his own life story. That's really important. And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself?" Mandisa said. "It's important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don't want to be a dishonest person and say, 'Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It's all great.'"
Danny has been a longtime fan favorite actor. He holds over 200 acting credits from a stellar career. Unfortunately, as his illness progresses, it's unlikely we will see him back on our screens in a new role. Despite the health issues he's facing, it's clear that Danny has a strong support system in place.
So, at least we know he's happy, irrespective of the battle he's fighting.
