Deisy Maria Tovar De Hernandez, the wife of former MLB star Gorkys Hernandez, has sadly passed away. She was reportedly killed during the earthquakes in Venezuela earlier this week. Gorkys made the heartbreaking announcement via his Instagram page.

"Queen of my life you are and will be the most beautiful, beautiful, precious, the best woman in the world," Gorkys wrote. "Who always in bad times looked for the way to get up. You were and are for me the most beautiful woman of my life, you will always be with me at all times and in every moment. Fly high my princess my queen that God has you in his glory and guide me to move forward and lift our family."
Gorkys then continued by remembering the lessons Deisy had taught him in life, and promising to fulfill their "mission."
"I love you, rest in peace, my girl, give strength, love of my life, because we had a mission, but here I am to fulfill it. You taught me to be strong at any moment of life. It is not easy, but you love me, my warrior Deisy Maria Tovar De Hernandez."
Gorkys Hernandez Spent Six Seasons in the MLB
Gorkys spent six years bouncing in and out of the MLB. His tenure in the league occurred between 2012 and 2019. As a rookie, Gorkys split his time between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Miami Marlins. He played in a total of 70 games, 25 for Pittsburgh and 45 for Miami.
The outfielder then returned to Pittsburgh for his sophomore year, playing just eight games. The following season, Gorkys moved to the San Francisco Giants, where he spent three seasons, playing a total of 296 games. His final season came with the Boston Red Sox, where he suited up for 20 outings.
Gorkys is now playing in the Venezuelan league for La Guaira Delfines. Deisy was reportedly staying at the Hotel Eduards in Macuto when the earthquake hit.
"Players reportedly ran back to the hotel to look for family members ... but it seems Deisy couldn't be saved," TMZ reported.
At present, there's no further information regarding Deisy's death or impending funeral.
