Days after his death, Tree's mother shared a heartfelt tribute to the "Cowboys Don't Cry" singer.
"Our dear son Oliver, you made this world a better place," Christine Begin Nickell wrote on Facebook Thursday.
"We are so proud of you. RIP," she wrote along with three heart emojis, the middle one broken.
According to local Brazilian news outlets, Tree, whose full name is Oliver Tree Nickell, was identified as one of six victims in a helicopter crash.
The fatal crash occurred in a neighborhood known as Recreio dos Bandeirantes. One of the helicopters reportedly collided with an electric car dealership after plummeting to the ground, causing an electrical fire. The incident set roughly 20 cars ablaze, according to the New York Post.
Also killed were YouTube star Gaspar "Gaspi" Prim, 23, director and screenwriter Lucas Vignale, 29, music producer Lucas Brito Chaves, 21, and pilots Charles Marsillac and Alexandre Souza.
Tree was in Rio de Janeiro as a part of his world tour.
Oliver Tree's Family is Launching a Charity in His Honor
BBC News reported that the body of Oliver Tree has been returned home to California, with an Instagram post on his account saying "he can finally rest".
The viral Instagram post also said his family would honor his "final wish" by establishing a charity in his name.
"This is something that Oliver had put together before his passing. [It is] written in his will. We will make sure his wish comes to fruition. So that more joy, love and art can be spread into the world. That was his final wish," the statement also said.
The foundation will be named Dr. Oliver Tree's Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses.
