The tourist bus overturned at around 6:50 PM on Saturday, June 20, on the Isparta-Konya highway near Gelendost in Isparta Province.

Officials stated that the driver reportedly lost control when the bus slid on a rain-soaked road and tipped over into a ditch. Ambulance crews and firefighters provided medical aid to those in need upon arrival.

Four people died at the scene. The 26 other tourists involved in the wreck were taken to hospitals in the Gelendost, Yalvaç, and E?irdir districts for treatment. According to Turkish news outlet Hurriyet, at least one other person has died since being transported to the hospital.

Bus Crash Results in Five Deaths and Dozens of Injuries

The deceased have been identified as ?-znur Altunta?, 37, Meryem Dinç, 60, Gülperi Ertürk, 77, and Keziban Baysal, 60, per the outlet. Five of the victims transported to the hospital remain in critical condition, according to the Isparta governor's office.

The sightseeing bus was traveling from Konya to Barla when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

After suffering minor injuries in the crash, the driver has been taken into custody.

Turkish Parliament member Hasan Basri Sönmez confirmed the tragedy on social media. 

"I have learned with profound sorrow of the tragic accident that occurred in the Ba??ll? area of our Gelendost district. Involving a tour bus carrying our citizens who had come from Konya to Barla for a visit," he wrote on 

Facebook, as translated from Turkish. "I wish Allah's mercy to our citizens who lost their lives in the accident. Patience and condolences to their grieving families and relatives. And a quick recovery to our injured citizens."

"May our Lord protect our nation from all kinds of disasters and accidents," he added. 

Authorities are now expected to launch an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
