Throughout his adult years, Haim struggled with substance abuse. Despite a stint in rehab, his addiction issues followed him. Unfortunately, his addiction grew. Haim attended rehab on 15 different occasions. As his work in Hollywood dried up, things went from bad to worse.
"The troubled performer was hit with a $375,000 lawsuit from Lloyds of London for hiding his substance dependency on insurance paperwork, alongside an undisclosed pre-existing medical condition," The Mirror reports.
In the early 2000s, Haim filed for and ultimately declared bankruptcy. His new situation reportedly led him to sell hair and even a tooth on eBay. The Mirror reports the tooth actually sold for $150, before eBay shut the sale down because it breached their terms and conditions of not selling human body parts.
"When 2010 arrived, Corey tragically died from pneumonia, destitute and isolated," The Mirror wrote. "He was just 38 years old at the time of his death."
Corey Haim Had 50 Acting Credits to His Name
Outside of Lost Boys, Haim appeared in a couple of popular movies during the 80s and 90s. He played Tavis in the 1988 flick, Watchers. In 1993, Haim appeared in three separate movies, starting with Blown Away, then Anything For Love, and finally Double Switch.
He worked consistently during his younger years, churning out movie after movie. Sadly, it appeared that he was on track to become somewhat of a big name within Hollywood.
One of Haim's last movies was the 2009 action film Crank: High Voltage, which starred Jason Statham in the lead role.
Even now, 16 years after his death, Haim's movies are standing the test of time. Sadly, his life was cut too short, likely in part due to the substances that he spent so long trying to break free from.
