Jazz Chisholm Jr. had a moment he will want to forget on Thursday, June 18. At the plate, he took a foul ball to the groin, leading him to double over in pain. Fortunately for Chisholm, the blow to the groin didn't come directly from the pitch, as that would have been catastrophic.
Instead, he managed to make contact with the ball before it bounced off the ground and struck him
The funny, yet painful, incident occurred during the fourth inning of the New York Yankees' loss to the Chicago White Sox. So, not only did Chisolm take one for the team, he did so in a game that didn't even swing his way. That's a tough one to swallow.
Despite Chisholm being in a world of hurt, his teammates appeared to see the funny side of the incident. Aaron Judge, Clarke Schmidt, Trent Grisham and Gerrit Cole all appeared to chuckle as their teammate doubled over. After all, it's always funny when someone catches a stray like that, as long as your not the one in pain.
However, once it became clear that Chisholm was in serious pain, his teammates stopped finding the funny side of the situation.
The New York Yankees Are Top of the East
Despite the loss to Chicago, the Yankees are putting together an impressive season. They currently sit atop the American League East, having won 45 of their 73 games so far. The Tampa Bay Rays are sitting in second, just three games behind the Yankees.
Impressively, the Yankees have been handling their business both at home and on the road. The team has won 21 of its 34 home games this season, and 24 of its 39 road outings. It's hard to chase down a team that plays with that level of consistency, regardless of whether they're in front of their own fans.
Currently, there has been no information as to whether Jazz Chisholm will be available for the next game or whether he will need to sit out a few. One thing's for sure, though: he probably needed one of those inflatable donuts to sit on after the game.
Ouch!
