But perhaps even more shocking is the alleged last will and testament of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor. As reported by PEOPLE, the handwritten document contains only 11 words.
What Does the Actor's Will Say?
Listed in the court documents are Brendon's father, Robert Schultz, mother, Kathleen Schultz, twin brother, Kelton Schultz, and his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Marker.
Brendon's will was handwritten on lined paper. Titled "My Will," he wrote, "Sarah gets nothing. Kel gets everything. He can figure it out."
Kelton petitioned to be appointed as the personal representative of Brendon's estate on May 25. However, the details about the actor's assets were not included in the documents. A hearing is scheduled for July 16.
How Did Nicolas Brendon Die?
Brendon died on March 20 at the age of 54. His autopsy revealed that he died of atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease, with acute pneumonia and previous myocardial infarction (heart attack) as contributing factors.
According to Mayo Clinic, this condition occurs when high blood pressure damages arterial walls. It can then lead to rapid plaque buildup and restricted blood flow.
Brendon's death was determined to be natural and caused by a 90% blockage of his right coronary artery.
Back in March, Brendon's family issued a statement that touched on his past battles with depression and addiction.
"While it's no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment to manage his diagnosis," it read.
However, Brendon is best known for his breakthrough role as Xander on Buffy. The character, who was seen as a nerd, is credited with making the pop culture stereotype more relatable and positive.
"I actually don't have a lot of crazy fan interactions. It's just a bunch of dudes who say, 'Man, you got me laid a lot in high school. You made it cool to be a nerd and awkward and funny,'" he said. "I wonder how many babies are out there because Xander got people laid."
In addition to his roles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Criminal Minds, Brendon found a creative outlet as a painter. His family said art was "one of the purest reflections of who he was."
