The fireworks began long before the Fourth of July on The View when Vice President JD Vance was a guest on Tuesday, June 16. That is not shocking. The co-hosts tend to have strong opinions that skew mainly left and liberal. Vance, meanwhile, is a staunch Republican and conservative. Not to mention that Vance is, of course, a leading member of the Trump administration and a MAGA man.

So when he was a guest on the popular daytime chatfest to promote his new book, Communion, it was a lively discussion indeed. The panelists were very eager to ask Vance their questions, with actress and moderator Whoopi Goldberg keeping things orderly.
In the past, the View panelists have taken a pretty hard line against the current administration for its stance on divisive issues like deportations and ICE raids.
Whoopi Goldberg Was the Referee
All the regular panelists were present for JD Vance's visit. They included Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, and Goldberg. It was a freewheeling discussion that touched on many hot-button topics besides his book. The economy, inflation, Black history, the Epstein files, and much more came up for some animated chewing over.
As Whoopi Goldberg soon discovered, halting the flow for commercials was a tough assignment. Per Variety, "...[S]he struggled to cut to commercial break, repeatedly having to cut off her co-hosts...."
Ana Navarro was doing her best at one point to ask Vance something. Goldberg, however, had to take a break for a commercial. In frustration, whether real or comically feigned, Goldberg exclaimed, "I've got to, I have to go to break." Finally, she declared, "Ana, God, please!" When Navarro, undeterred, kept on going, Whoopi Goldberg said, "We have more with Vice President JD Vance when we come back." To her colleague Ana Navarro, she instructed firmly, "Don't do that!"
Behar Also Was Shushed a Bit
Joy Behar, never one to be shy, got some slight pushback from Goldberg when she wanted to direct a follow-up question to the vice president. Behar looked mildly miffed at the moment.
The White House Has Previously Had Its Own Say About the Controversial Show
It's safe to assume that The View is not on any list of favorite TV shows at the White House. In fact, per Entertainment Weekly, spokespeople for the Trump administration have previously blasted the show. According to the outlet, "Statements [about it from White House reps to EW] included calling Behar a 'talentless hack,' labeling Navarro 'dumb,' and lashing out at Goldberg and Hostin for being, as a rep said, 'idiots.'"
