The '90s Dutch rock band shared on social media today that it is playing the final show of its latest tour, which was launched to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its third album, Mandylion. The tour kicked off last June.

Who Is The Gathering?

The Gathering was born in 1989 in Oss, Netherlands. While the band has its roots in metal, all that changed when vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen joined the group in 1994.

The next year, the album Mandylion was released. Atmospheric hits like "Strange Machines" made The Gathering an international success. Subsequent albums, such as Nighttime Birds and Souvenirs, continued to break new ground. They moved the band into ambient, techno, and progressive rock.

Van Giersbergen left the band in 2007, but it soldiered on in her absence. She rejoined The Gathering in 2025 for its latest tour.

When Will the Last Show Be?

In the announcement, The Gathering announced the tour's last show will be in Amsterdam, Netherlands, at AFAS Live on January 16, 2027.

"After 29 shows around the world with the original lineup, this will be the final celebration of this special tour," the announcement read.

The caption said the concert will feature another album from the band.

"During this evening, we will not only celebrate Mandylion, but also shine a spotlight on Nighttime Birds, which will likewise mark its 30th anniversary in 2027," it said. "With Nighttime Birds, we continued the musical journey that began with Mandylion. The two albums are inextricably linked and together represent an important chapter in our creative evolution as a band. The songs on these records still hold a special meaning for us—and for many of you."

It added, "This will be a unique evening dedicated to both albums and the journey we have shared with you over the past 30 years... Together, we will make it an unforgettable night!"
