Late NASCAR Icon's Wife Opens up About Her Gut-Wrenching Final Promise to Him

The death last month of revered NASCAR icon Kyle Busch is still hard to comprehend. He left us at age 41 with so much of his amazing life and career ahead of him. Sadly, Busch had pneumonia that led to sepsis. His family, colleagues, and legions of fans are wondering how they will go forward in his painful absence. Probably no one is feeling the ache of Busch's death as much as his beloved wife, Samantha. They were married in 2010 and have two young children, daughter Lennix, 4, and son Brexton, 11. Now widowed and a single mom, Samantha Busch wrote on Instagram about the heartbreak of her husband's sudden passing and her hopes for the future.

"Kyle's Story Isn't Over"

Samantha Busch posted this message about Kyle Busch. Even in her immense grief, she is finding ways to preserve cherished memories of him, along with his racing legacy. She poignantly wrote in part, "In the hospital, I made Kyle a promise. I promised him that I would do everything I could to help our children pursue their dreams no matter what. For Brexton, that dream is racing."

Furthermore, Samantha added, "It wasn't a dream Kyle chose for him. It was something they shared. They spent countless hours talking about race cars, working together, dreaming together, and building a bond around something they both genuinely loved. Racing is what lights Brexton up and as long as it's the dream in his heart, I'll be right there beside him, cheering him on every step of the way."

She also mentioned that if Brexton chooses a different path for himself, "that's okay too." If Lennix is the Busch child who eventually becomes a racer, "we will do our absolute best" to support and guide her.

She's a Little Ambivalent About Being at the Racetrack Now

Without her spouse and the father of her kids by her side, being at the racetrack is still freshly raw for Samantha. In her post, she acknowledged that, "The racetrack has been home for our family for nearly 20 years." When she is there now, however, along with sorrow, there is also glory.

Samantha Busch explained, "Every time we get to the track, we're reminded that a piece of our team is missing. The person who should be standing beside us isn't there. That part is heartbreaking. But it's also where we feel closest to him, surrounded by the memories, the people, and the dreams he helped build.'

She concluded with these words: "So, we race on."
