His wife, Bryttni, confirmed the news in a June 5 social media post. She said the gaming influencer had died "very suddenly" on June 2. He announced in March 2025 that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.

"Alex was always very forthcoming about his health journey with all of you, and I want to continue to honor that and answer some questions you may have," she said. "I greatly appreciate the outpouring of love for Alex. I know that he touched the lives of many of you."

Who Is Alex Cimo?

Alex was known for his YouTube gaming videos, particularly for the card-trading game Yu-Gi-Oh! The game, based on the Japanese manga series, started in 2002. It was based on the anime show of the same name.

Alex's videos not only educated and entertained players but also helped build a community around it. In addition to his gaming content, Alex was also open about his struggles with Crohn's disease as well as his colon cancer diagnosis with his over 300,000 YouTube subscribers.

He wrote on social media, "In mid-March, the 'best cancer doctors in the United States' told me that I only had days to live. I refused to accept my fate, so I fought, and fought, and f***ing fought harder than anything I've had to fight for in my entire life."

Before his death, Alex donated most of his Yu-Gi-Oh! card collection to another influencer. According to his mother, he also raised money and volunteered for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

Alex's Death Was First Announced on LinkedIn

Alex's mother first announced her son's death in a LinkedIn post. It has since been deleted, as reported by Dexerto

"He took the card game he loved playing as a child and shared his passion and positivity with millions," she wrote.

Bryttni planned to share the news at a different time. She waited because she was "still very raw" from his death.

She added, "I was not aware that the LinkedIn post was going to be made. I had a plan to update everyone in a couple of weeks in accordance with Alex's wishes once my pain felt a bit more dulled."
