Following his arrest, the Broncos released a short statement.
"We are aware of the matter and are gathering more information," the statement said, via NBC Sports.
Currently, there are no details regarding what led to Cooper's arrest; however, Mike Klis, who covers the Broncos, also reported that Cooper's girlfriend had also been arrested.
"Cooper's girlfriend also arrested on criminal mischief/domestic violence charges,"
More information regarding the situation will undoubtedly come to light in the near future. For now, though, all we know is that as of Thursday night, he was being held in a Colorado jail.
Jonathon Cooper Is Heading Into His Sixth NFL Season
Cooper was drafted by the Broncos with the 239th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He's spent five years with the franchise, and should be preparing for his sixth.
As a rookie, Cooper suited up for 16 games, starting five of them. He recorded 38 total tackles, including seven hits on the opposing quarterback. As a sophomore, Cooper played 14 games, registering 48 tackles and seven quarterback hits.
Cooper's third season in the league was arguably his best. He recorded the most tackles in a single season of his career thus far (72), including eight tackles for a loss.
In total, Cooper has played in 81 regular-season NFL games, registering 266 total tackles, 33 of them causing a loss. Broncos fans will undoubtedly hope to have one of their best linebackers available for next season. However, that isn't something that will be in their control.
For now, Cooper's situation is a "wait and see," especially as we don't know what he allegedly did to cause the charges against him.
