"You Don't Quit": Vanilla Ice Stands by Freedom 250 Amid Artist Exodus, Trump Call Out

Vanilla Ice is vowing to take the stage at the Great American State Fair organized by Freedom 250. (The multi-day event celebrating the 250th birthday of our nation begins this month in Washington, D.C.) His insistence comes despite several performers backing out of the event, allegedly due to political reasons.

President Donald Trump has jumped into the fray. He said on Truth Social that he might have a MAGA rally instead, with him as the featured attraction, minus the music. Trump also angrily slammed people like Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, and Morris Day who bowed out of the gala patriotic occasion, calling them "Third Rate Artists."

Vanilla Ice Plans To Perform

Meanwhile, Vanilla Ice says he is "committed" to being there, per Fox News Digital. The "Ice, Ice Baby" singer, 58, said, "I'm reinforced. I'm here. I am committed. Once you commit, you don't quit, man. And that's how I am." He sounds pumped about the upcoming opportunity. "I was so honored, man, my mom is proud of me, everybody. It's such a cool thing to go celebrate your country and enjoy the birthday."

Vanilla Ice (his name is actually Robert Van Winkle) blasted those who are making the controversy political. "And the way the people are dragging this into politics, it's not fair. It is not fair to us as entertainers for sure. And I think that this shouldn't be looked at as political or anything. I'm happy that Trump's putting this on. I'm honored that he invited me. I've played for him many times. They're great friends of mine."

He declared, "And I'm going to bring back the 90s, hopefully we still do it. I don't know if it's still going, but either way, I'm going, man."

He Says Would Take the Stage for Anyone Regardless of Their Political Affiliation

The star said to the outlet that he "would perform for virtually anyone," in the words of Fox News Digital. That includes, for example, prominent figures like California Governor Gavin Newsom and former President Joe Biden. Both men are Democrats. Vanilla Ice even performed in 1993 for former Russian President Boris Yeltsin.

As for politics, he resolutely stays out of it. "I don't vote. I don't waste my time with that. It's more about pina coladas and palm trees with me. I don't take any of these things serious, especially this whole mess. But some people do and I respect them all, man."

In addition, he went on, "I love everybody. This world needs more damn love, you know? That's the truth behind it. We need to show more love, man, to all of our countrymen and both sides need to come together."
