Outrage as Singer Mocks "USA" Chant During Show: "Thanks for the Geography Lesson"

The singer lambasted fans for the chant after a picture of the band's mascot appeared on a screen on stage. And now he's getting backlash.

Probably one of the most iconic chants that have ever come out of the U.S. has to be "USA! USA! USA!". I mean, it even has its own Wikipedia page - that means it's notable enough, right?

According to the encyclopedia, the chant has a pretty storied history. Its first recorded use was in a Pennsylvania steelmaking plant in 1918 toward the end of the First World War. And, as you know, it just exploded in popularity ever since then.

But it appears that not everyone seems to like it. One of those people is the Black Crowes' lead singer Chris Robinson. According to Ultimate Classic Rock, he had some pretty choice words to say to the fans chanting it.

This incident happened on Sunday, May 31 at the Black Crowes show in Tampa, Florida. The chant started after the band's mascot, a black crow, was seen dressed as Uncle Sam on a screen during the show.

Robinson's reply was, "Thanks for the geography lesson. I don't know what you have to be so proud of." And his tirade continued as people booed him. "...Some of us have real faith. And for those of you f****** booing us, some of us are not afraid. And we are most assuredly are not f****** ignorant, so thank you!"

According to TMZ, the booing continued even as they were leaving the ampitheatre.

The Singer Also Got Backlash Online

But he didn't just get booed - he also got backlash online from angry fans.

Some people thought the whole thing was contradictory. One person commented, "So they put a visual prompt on screen and are mad when people respond to it?" Another commented, "How stupid do you have to be to not realize putting up a picture of the crow dressed as Uncle Sam wouldn't elicit that response?"

Lots of other fans have vowed to rip their tickets up. That doesn't look good for any future dates they've got. At the moment, they're touring with Whiskey Meyers. Their next show is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2 in St. Augustine, Florida.

Whether you disagree or agree with what he said, one thing remains true - the "USA" chant certainly isn't going away!
