Bride Nearly Drowns After Jumping Into Pool With Wedding Dress

Weddings are usually formal occasions. However, some brides like to include lighthearted moments in their nuptials too. Shelby Crawford is among them. Wanting to have some innocent fun, she kicked up her high heels and leaped into a pool in her wedding dress. That was at her wedding reception in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The heavy garment accidentally covered her face, however, almost causing her to drown on the happiest day of her life. She shared with People, "It was something I had seen people do before and thought it would be a fun way to end the night." The hijinks could have ended as fatal rather than mere frolic, though. Luckily, Shelby Crawford is alright. It was actually her groom who helped her.

Things Did Not Go as Planned

Crawford told the outlet that she intended to keep her gown from floating up by holding it down at her sides. But in the mirth of the moment, she neglected to do that. "When I went to actually jump in, the adrenaline just got to me, and I didn't do that. So the dress just went over my head after I jumped in."

Crawford came to the surface. Nevertheless, the yards of white fabric stuck to her face, hampering her breathing. She clarified, "I wasn't being held underwater, but I still couldn't really catch a breath."

Making the situation even more perilous was the fact that the guests had no idea that Crawford was in trouble. They were oblivious to the aquatic drama. Crawford did not seem to them to be in any distress. "They really couldn't tell anything was wrong. They said I appeared so calm and quiet during all of it."

Her New Husband Came to Her Rescue

Crawford's husband, Corey, was in the pool with her. He stepped in and quickly whisked the gown away from her face, saving the day and his wife. She subsequently posted a TikTok video of the scary episode. It was captioned, "The saxophones getting louder as everyone films me drowning in my wedding dress." Maybe she can look back now at the dicey situation and even chuckle a bit.

Glad you're okay, Shelby!
