The recall was issued "out of an abundance of caution" by Raaw Energy. It comes after testing detected listeria, a potentially deadly bacteria, in several samples of its frozen dog food products. Listeria can cause sickness in both pets and humans. The recall was first issued in January and then updated on May 22.

"Consumers are advised not to use, sell, or consume any affected product. Please discard these items immediately to help reduce the risk of illness," the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said in the notice.

What Dog Food Products Are Affected by the Recall?

The FDA notice states that the Raaw Energy recall affects its frozen dog food products made between July 17, 2025, and Dec. 23, 2025. It also includes a batch of "Beef and Turkey Medley" dated March 31, 2026.

These products come in 2-pound and 5-pound varieties. They come in clear plastic tubes and are packaged inside brown cardboard boxes. The dog food is distributed on Raaw Energy's website. Pickup locations include Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The varieties of the dog food included in the recall include  "Beef and Chicken," "Beef and Turkey Medley," "Chicken Medley," "Hybrid Dog's Best Friend," and more.

Raaw Energy said that it has also temporarily stopped all dog food production to address sanitation concerns.

"We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As a small business, we are committed to doing the right thing and correct any issues," Raaw Energy said in a statement. "We appreciate your patience and understanding as we focus on making these improvements and ensuring that our products meet the standards our customers expect and deserve."

What Is Listeria?

According to the FDA, Listeria is a bacteria that spreads through contaminated food and surfaces, including bowls, countertops, and utensils.

If contracted by humans, it can cause symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and muscle aches. Severe cases can spread to the brain, causing meningitis, pregnancy complications, or death.

The FDA also added, "Pets exposed to contaminated food can be infected without showing symptoms."
