Worthington's Biggest Hit Is Based On a Real-Life Incident
Worthington, who was first introduced to music lovers as the runner-up on the sixth season of The Voice, shared that "It Ain't the Whiskey" was inspired by an encounter with police.
Worthington wrote the song with Will Banister, Jeff Hyde, and Roger Springer. The police encounter happened one night early in his marriage, when he was pulled over for driving erratically. The officer suspected he was driving under the influence, but the real reason was less criminal. His wife was in the passenger seat.
"That first year of being married to Sophia, we found ourselves in the back of a cop car," said Worthington. "It just created all kinds of a fiasco for us. But months later, Jeff, Roger, and Will had called me up, and we talked about it. They had a pretty great idea, and I lived a little bit of it. So, that's about it. It's just a fun-loving song."
