Country Band Reveals Their Banjo Player Had a Heart Attack Mid-Show

A country band revealed that their banjo player had a shocking medical emergency just minutes before their debut show.

I think I'm not going out on a limb here when I say that a lot of people would bow out of responsibilities at the slightest inconvenience. Maybe I'm speaking for everyone here. But when I don't feel very well, I might cancel something important so I don't have to deal with two things at once.

But not everyone feels this way. Country musicians specifically tend to be made out of steel, if their music is anything to go by, at least. And that was proven recently when a country band opened up about their banjo player's wild heart attack experience.

As reported by Whiskey Riff, the iconic band The Creekers went into detail about the wild story on the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast. The crazy incident happened when the band was just starting out. Tanner Horton, the lead guitarist and singer, had been asked to be an opener for iconic bluegrass artist Rhonda Vincent.

So, Horton had to clamber together to form a band. One of the people he approached was Scott Sutton, who was to be the banjo player for the band. And, luckily for our ears, he said yes.

But, in a shocking turn of events, Sutton had a pretty bad emergency just before the country band went on stage. However, no one batted an eyelid because it wasn't visible.

As Horton put it, "Scott had a heart attack about five minutes before we went on stage. He never skipped a beat. We never knew he was having an issue until three weeks later. He got up the next day and went to work."

Talk about nerves, right?

Sutton Said the Heart Attack Just Made Him Feel Bad

Strangely enough, the heart attack didn't feel like how you'd expect. According to the American Heart Foundation, heart attacks typically feature chest discomfort, shortness of breath, and feeling light-headed or faint.

But, in his words, all he was feeling like was "crap". Sutton found out that he had had a heart attack after going to the hospital due to some strange symptoms.

"He got done with the show, he got in his car, and then drove home. He went to the hospital like two and a half weeks later. They were like, 'Yeah, you had a heart attack this many days ago.'"
