The shocking act of vandalism happened around midnight on Sunday, May 17, at the popular cupcake shop, which previously appeared on TLC reality series DC Cupcakes.

According to the bakery, the incident caused roughly $10,000 worth of damage.

Washington DC Bakery Targeted in Late-Night Vandalism

Security footage released by both the bakery and police shows the suspect carrying a beer keg in front of the storefront shortly after midnight on Monday.

The man, seen wearing a green t-shirt, khaki pants, dark sneakers, and a crew cut hairstyle, appeared to pause outside the business before picking up the keg and hurling it through the glass window.

Video then shows the suspect calmly walking away as shattered glass covered the sidewalk outside the bakery.

Co-owner Sophie LaMontagne later revealed that one of the bakery's staff members was inside the store when the attack happened.

"One of our bakers called us immediately after it happened," LaMontagne told PEOPLE. "She was terrified when it happened."

"This is heavy glass. So she was terrified. We were just so thankful that nobody was hurt in this incident."

"It's just very unnerving and shocking as a business owner, and our staff is very shaken up."

Georgetown Cupcake Says Damage is Costly

The bakery estimates that repairs and damages will cost around $10,000.

Meanwhile, investigators have urged anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.

"To whoever is responsible: actions like this don't go unnoticed. There are cameras, there are witnesses, and there will be consequences. You will be held accountable," Georgetown Cupcake wrote on Instagram.

"If anyone has information, speak up. This kind of behavior has no place in our community."

LaMontagne said the bakery has operated in the Georgetown neighborhood for 18 years and had never experienced vandalism on this scale.

She described the attack as "definitely deliberate," adding that the suspect appeared to stare at the storefront window "for quite some time" before throwing the keg.

The bakery owner also said neighboring businesses have already shared surveillance footage to help investigators identify the suspect.

The shop continues working closely with the Metropolitan Police Department as the investigation moves forward.

Despite the destruction, Georgetown Cupcake reopened the following day. Staff members "worked really hard" to board up the damaged window overnight.
