She recently also appeared on ID's Hollywood Demons: Surviving 16 & Pregnant. The reality star opened up about the difficult realities after she appeared on the show in Season 3.
"I just started partying. And then all of a sudden pills started going into the parties and we're doing Xanax, and then it was Percocet, and when I was 17, I had somebody shoot me up with heroin," she recalled.
Cunningham said that she became an addict. She shared, "I always knew it wasn't okay, but in my head, I kept a house, a job, a car. I thought, 'I'm fine. I'm still being an okay mom.' It's not like he wasn't getting fed or clothed, but emotionally. I just wasn't there like I should have been."
Reality Star Talks Overdose
But eventually, she decided to turn her life around. It came after a devastating overdose.
"In 2012, I got a bag of heroin. I was in the backseat of my best friend at the time's car. We'll go to McDonald's. It's like two in the morning. I overdosed in the backseat of her car," she recalled.
"Back then, Narcan wasn't a thing like it is today, where you can just Narcan, send you on your way. So, I'm like, choking on my tongue. She doesn't want to call the cops, so she drives me all the way to the hospital. By the time I got to the hospital, I was black and blue, and they're saying I was gonna be brain dead."
The 16 & Pregnant star ended up in a coma. But miraculously, she woke up from her near-death experience. She learned she was pregnant as well.
"Jamie and me, we found out we were going to have another kid. I was pregnant, very early. Four weeks pregnant with my daughter," she said. "I just overdosed with one kid. That's a rough one."
Fortunately, the reality star welcomed a healthy baby girl in 2013.
"Luckily, she is the most beautiful girl," Cunningham said. The reality star also got clean. "I don't think I was like, 'Because of this show, I'm going to do drugs,' but I think that naturally, it was the only thing that I could numb everything with, was drugs."
