Mark Fuhrman, the LAPD detective most known for being involved in the prosecution during the OJ Simpson trial, has died. As reported by the New York Post, he passed away on Tuesday, May 12.
A friend of Fuhrman reported that he had passed away of an "aggressive form of cancer." He was 74. He had moved to Idaho after retiring from the Los Angeles Police Department in August of 1995.
Fuhrman was known for his work investigating the crime scene during the OJ Simpson trial. He found the iconic bloody glove which the prosecution used to link Simpson to the 1994 murder of Nicole Brown Simspon and Ron Goldman outside of her LA home.
But, the glove was famously tossed out of the case. This was after the famous moment where Simpson struggled to fit the glove on his hand. His lawyer, Johnnie Cochran, used this as a way to show the jury there was a reasonable doubt to his guilt.
He was also known for lying in court, and subsequently getting convicted for perjury. He had lied about previously using a racial slur, which the defense later showed he had in a tape recording. This meant his authority on the stand got diminished - so Cochran accused him of planting the glove at the OJ mansion.
After retiring from the police force, Fuhrman wrote true crime books. He also worked as a Fox News expert.
