George Kittle has been slammed by PETA. The San Francisco 49ers tight end recently posted about killing a spider on social media. He noted that his wife had woken him up in the early hours of the morning after finding the creepy-crawly.

'At 4 am this morning, as I laid in a deep slumber, I was called to action by my wife who had discovered a spider the size of a half dollar in the bathroom,' Kittle posted. "Without hesitation I arose to combat the intruder. Claire handed me the slant board I've been using for rehab, and I immediately knew the spider had no chance. It took but 1 attempt to strike down my opponent."

Kittle's light-hearted posted then continued by detailing how happy his wife was, following his spider-disposal service.

"I received hugs and kisses for my bravery and fell back asleep with confidence. Have a day, gentlemen."

As with any post on social media, Kittle quickly learned that not everyone agreed with his method for disposing of the arachnid. PETA also took the opportunity to slam Kittle publicly.

"Spiders are tiny compared to the average human, let alone an NFL player, and have a lot more to fear from us than we do from them, so there's no need for unnecessary roughness,' PETA senior vice president Lisa Lange said in a statement, via The Daily Mail. "PETA is urging George Kittle to drop the unsportsmanlike conduct and adopt a live and let live approach when it comes to uninvited arachnid guests."

PETA Offered To Send George Kittle a Bug Catcher

PETA's statement then continued to offer Kittle a bug catcher, in the hope that he can dispose of unwanted visitors in a more humane way moving forward.

"PETA notes that spiders play a crucial role in their ecosystems — and that the vast majority are completely harmless to humans,' the statement continued. 'To gently encourage spiders in the home to move along, PETA recommends humane deterrents, such as peppermint oil."

Kittle likely didn't plan on becoming a teachable moment following his post. He was simply celebrating being a doting husband and protector in his own home. However, every day is a school day.
