Talk about an awkward moment! Jessica Simpson ran into her ex-husband Nick Lachey on a flight to Hawaii recently.

Lachey opened up about the encounter during his appearance on Watch What Happens Live yesterday, May 13.
Nick Lachey Hadn't Seen Jessica Simpson in "20 Years"
The incident between Simpson and Lachey made headlines in April. When show host Andy Cohen asked the 98 Degrees singer about what happened, Lachey described the experience as "strangely okay."
"It's been 20 years since we've been [together] and we hadn't seen each other in those 20 years, then spent six-and-a-half hours on a flight to Hawaii together," Lachey said.
Both Lachey and Simpson, who were married from 2002 to 2006 and were the subject of the MTV reality show Newlyweds, were with their families. The two didn't interact much at all.
"When I say 'spent,' [I mean] in the same vicinity. Everyone was very cordial, very respectful," added Lachey.
Both Cohen and Lachey referred to Simpson's mother as his "former mother-in-law." Lachey added that he's "not familiar with where they stand at this point."
But adding to the drama was the presence of Simpson's husband, Eric Johnson, who was also on the plane. Lachey said that "it was fine." However, Johnson and Simpson separated in 2025. They share three children, but the young ones were seated in a "separate class of service" from Simpson during the flight.
Both Lachey and Simpson Have Moved On
For Simpson, last year marked an attempt to stage a musical comeback. The 45-year-old singer and The Dukes of Hazzard actress released a pair of EPs titled Nashville Canyon, Parts 1 and 2.
However, every appearance she made to promote her new material seemingly backfired. Performances on American Idol and Today were greeted with many callous remarks. Fans also said her face looked "unrecognizable" at the VMAs last year.
Meanwhile, Lachey married former Total Request Live host Vanessa Lachey in 2011. The couple has three children and host the Netflix reality show Love Is Blind. It was recently announced that the show's 11th season will take place in Boston.
