Lane Kiffin has opened up about his drinking problems and the impact they've had on his personal life. His revealing comments came via an interview with Vanity Fair on Monday, May 11. During the interview, the LSU head coach, who got divorced in 2016 and has been sober since 2021, gave a reflective and honest explanation of his previous issues.

"My whole drive when I was younger was like, How fast can I get everything? How fast can I get the big job? The big contract?" Kiffin said. "As I've gotten older, I've tried to work on that, making decisions that are more delayed gratification...I got tired of digging out of hangovers, tired of digging out of situations or things I said."
According to Vanity Fair, Kiffin's early career is a picture of partying. He would slam beers before eventually moving on to vodka. Of course, that drinking ultimately led to issues at home. Kiffin announced his divorce while still working as the offensive coordinator for Alabama.
However, in the years that have followed, Kiffin has gotten his life back on track. He's become one of the most controversial coaches in college football. Nevertheless, controversy often follows the successful, and his time with Ole Miss was exactly that. He spent six years with the program, rebuilding it into a powerhouse. He amassed a 55-19 record.
Lane Kiffin and His Ex-Wife Has Since Reconciled
In December 2024, Kiffin and his ex-wife, Layla, were involved in rumors of potential reconciliation, following a (once again) rumored trip to New York City. However, in 2025, they did, indeed, reconnect.
Since then, Layla and Kiffin have been publicly back together. Layla reportedly moved to Oxford so the couple could begin building their life together for a second time. Now, Kiffin has shared multiple pictures of his family, including Layla, to social media.
From the outside, the couple appears to be happy. They're smiling in their pictures, and seem to be a solid family unit.
Kiffin is now the head coach of LSU, having made the highly controversial move from Ole Miss. He will need the continued support of Layla and his family as he continues to forge his career in the face of such a dividing career decision.
