"According to OCDC, Mason is being held on "flight to avoid," which usually describes someone attempting to flee across state or international lines to avoid prosecution," News 9 reports.
News 9 has also reported that Mason's felony arrest is due to theft of property. A couple has claimed they commissioned Mason to spend more than $9,000 to frame a piece of sports memorabilia. However, Mason never returned the item to the couple.
"Investigators say Mason sent the couple a photograph of the completed sports memorabilia framing in April 2025 and promised to deliver the final product, but then ceased communication with the couple for several months," News 9's report continued. "The sports memorabilia and associated authentication documents were valued at around $40,000."
Notably, the report also states that Mason reached back out to the couple in January 2026. Nevertheless, the arrest warrant was issued the following month.
There is no further information regarding Mason's case at this time.
Desmond Mason Spent 10 Years in the NBA
Mason entered the NBA in 2000, drafted by the Seattle Supersonics with the 17th pick. As a rookie, he suited up for 78 games, starting 14 of them. In his second year in the league, Mason finished within the top five for Sixth Man of the Year voting, having averaged 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists, primarily from the bench.
Two seasons later, Mason was back in the running for Sixth Man of the Year. This time, he was anchoring the Milwaukee Bucks' second unit. He ended the 2003-04 season with an average of 14.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
Despite his clear ability to provide a tangible impact off the bench, Mason never stayed with a team for more than two seasons. Throughout his career, he played for the Supersonics, Bucks, Hornets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Sacramento Kings.
Mason played in 643 regular-season NBA games throughout his career, starting 385 of them. A solid career by any standards.
