Fast food, at least in the past, was always praised for its dirt cheap prices. It used to be cheap and cheerful, an easy lunch or dinner for you and your kids. But now, times have changed. Everything under the sun has got a lot more expensive, and that's being reflected in the prices.
And people really, really aren't happy, especially with McDonald's. According to the New York Post, people have made a big deal about things online. More specifically, they're upset about the so-called McValue menu. It's a new value initiative in an attempt to make more people go to McDonald's, for cheaper prices.
There are several parts of the McValue menu, but one that's made people particularly angry is the McDouble. On the menu, a McDouble will set you back "only" $2.50. But, that didn't used to be the case.
"Anyone remember when McDoubles used to be 99 cents? It was only 10 years ago", as one Redditor put it. And that's a fair argument. I don't know how feasible a 150% increase is, especially when it's branded as a "value" deal.
Another commentor wrote, "Thing was a dollar, they sell billions of burgers, and I'm supposed to be impressed by $2.50?" The people are clear - this really isn't a good look for the company.

McDonald's Has Defended Their McValue Menu
But, in a statement, McDonald's has defended their McValue menu. "Our focus has always been on listening to our customers and meeting their needs. That's why McValue was built as a flexible platform designed to evolve with them."
They explain that the main driving force behind their menu is "delivering great value". "The under $3 menu delivers on what [the customers] have told us matters most: consistently great prices on their favorite items and the freedom to order what they want, when they want - no bundling required," they added.
This comes after the level of food price inflation has gone up. The Consumer Price Index for restaurant food, including fast food chains like McDonald's, says prices have gone up by 3.8% between March 2025 and March 2026.
