On-site medical personnel responded and reportedly found the tourist still showing vital signs.

Staff then transferred him by private ambulance to a nearby hospital while he remained unconscious.

"The patient was transferred in a private ambulance belonging to the hotel to a hospital, accompanied by medical personnel who continued with the procedures during the journey," the hotel said in a statement.

"Despite efforts, upon arrival at the hospital, the death was confirmed after all corresponding maneuvers were exhausted."

Officials have not yet released a cause of death.

Hotel Operator Previously Faced Scrutiny Following Park Tragedy

Hotel Xcaret Mexico forms part of the wider Xcaret ecotourism development in the Mexican Caribbean.

According to Ruptura 360, the resort complex has internal medical response and security protocols designed to handle emergencies.

The hotel's parent company, Grupo Xcaret, also operates attractions including Xcaret Park, Xplor, and Xcaret Xailing.

The company previously faced scrutiny following a 2021 incident involving a 13-year-old boy at Xenses Park.

According to the Associated Press, the child died after allegedly being pulled into an intake system in an artificial river attraction.

Authorities said the incident stemmed from an "equipment malfunction in an artificial river at a theme park run by Mexico's Grupo Xcaret."

"The death occurred March 27 in a two-foot (60 centimeter) deep cave-like river attraction at Xenses, a park operated Grupo Xcaret right next to the company's flagship Xcaret water park near Playa del Carmen," the report stated.

Grupo Xcaret later said the tragedy resulted from human error and repairs that had not been authorized at the attraction.

The report claims that the boy's father later told newspaper El Universal that authorities allegedly refused to release his son's body until he signed documents that he believed would waive responsibility from the company.
