Bonnie Tyler Has Had a Long, Storied Career
The international music icon is synonymous with the 1980s because of the album Faster Than the Speed of Night. However, she had considerable success in the 1970s thanks to the ballad "It's a Heartache."
The Welsh singer has released 18 studio albums throughout her long career. Her latest was appropriately titled The Best Is Yet to Come. It came out in 2021.
But it's hits like "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and "Holding Out for a Hero" that continue to get airplay. In fact, Tyler was the first British female artist to debut at the top of the U.K. Albums Chart. She is still the only Welsh artist to reach the number one spot on the U.K. Singles Chart. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983. It was knocked off by another classic track, "Islands In the Stream," the iconic duet by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
As reported by Good Morning America, Tyler herself loves the "Total Eclipse of the Heart," which was penned by the late, great Jim Steinman. The song's streaming numbers tend to go up during an eclipse. In fact, searches for it on Spotify go up nearly 50% during an actual celestial event.
"Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world, they play 'Total Eclipse of the Heart,' and I never get tired of singing it," she said.
