George Strait Makes Flub While on Stage at Packed Show

George Strait played two sold-out concerts at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas, on April 24 and 25. They almost went off without a hitch.

Not even George Strait can keep everyone's names straight.

The King of Country played back-to-back sold-out concerts at Jones AT&T Stadium on the campus of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, on April 24 and 25. And both of them went off without a hitch... almost.

What Happened at the George Strait Show?

On the show on Friday, April 24, Strait performed with an all-star cast of country music legends and up-and-comers. Hudson Westbrook and Dylan Gossett were joined by Miranda Lambert and Zach Top.

The "I Never Lie" singer once again showed why he is one of country music's biggest stars. He performed a phenomenal show for the over 130,000 fans who reportedly attended. In fact, Strait was so impressed that he talked about it during his set.

"I could feel this vibe when I got here today," he said. "When I stepped inside this stadium, it was an amazing feeling, and I appreciate that very much. It's great to be here with Zac Brown."

Apparently, the "Write This Down" singer didn't follow his own advice and forgot who he was performing with. It's understandable, considering the unusually large number of performers named Zach in country music at the moment.

Thankfully, the 73-year-old Strait quickly realized his faux pas and corrected himself.

"Zach Top, excuse me. 'ZT,' I call him," he said. "Amazing performer."

Despite the flub, Top has to feel pretty good that the King of Country paid him quite the compliment.

The King of Country Also Performs Next Week

The two Lubbock shows are just the beginning of a busy month for Strait. He will be teaming up with Cody Johnson and Wyatt Flores for a "one-night only" concert on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Clemson University's Death Valley.

It is the first time the venue has hosted a concert since 1999. The show? The George Strait Chevy Trucks Country Music Festival.

The lineup featured not only Strait but also Tim McGraw, the Dixie Chicks (before their name change), JoDee Messina, Kenny Chesney, and Asleep at the Wheel on the bill.

After that, Strait returns to Texas to perform at the Moody Center in Austin on May 15 and 16.
