President Trump was among several members of the cabinet who were forced to evacuate from the White House Correspondents' Dinner. As reported by DW, the dinner was taking place at the Hilton Ballroom in Washington D.C.
The incident happened at around 8pm local time. Secret Service, among other forces, were seen flooding the ballroom in an attempt to protect guests and cabinet members alike. This came after apparent gunshots were fired at the event, just minutes after it had begun. Guests were seen ducking under tables while authorities moved in to secure the area.
Luckily, there were no reports of injuries to anyone in the incident. President Trump and the First Lady were safely removed from the scene. As well as this, according to ABC, other prominent cabinet members were also rushed to safety. These included House Speaker Mike Johnson and Vice President JD Vance.
The US Secret Service has also confirmed one suspect is in custody. In a statement released on social media, they wrote, "The U.S. Secret Service, in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department, is investigating a shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area at the White House Correspondents' Dinner... One individual is in custody."

President Trump Posted on Truth Social About the Incident
President Trump also personally weighed in on what had happened. In a statement on his social media platform Truth Social, he wrote that the shooter had been apprehended.
"Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we 'LET THE SHOW GO ON' but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we'll just, plain, have to do it again,"
An update from President Trump also says that they have been told to leave the premises. He added that the White House Correspondents' Dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days.
We are glad no one was injured, and hope that authorities get to the bottom of this incident.
