As Mashable reports, this is the tenth power bank recall in the United States in the last 12 months.

Why Is There a Recall on Power Banks?

Casely reannounced its recall of the 5,000-mAh MagSafe Power Pods (Model E33A) after originally receiving 51 reports of lithium-ion batteries overheating, expanding, or catching fire while charging smartphones. Six users suffered minor burn injuries.

"The recalled lithium-ion battery in the power banks can overheat and ignite, posing risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards to consumers," the CPSC said on its website. Customers should stop using the affected power banks immediately.

Over the past year, the CPSC shared that 28 additional reports about the affected power banks have been submitted. This includes one that caused an accident on an airplane and another that resulted in a fatality.

"In August 2024, a 75-year-old woman from New Jersey was charging her cell phone with the power bank on her lap when it caught on fire and exploded," the report states. "The victim suffered second and third-degree burns and later passed away from complications from her injuries."

The statement added, "In February 2026, a 47-year-old woman was charging her cell phone with the power bank on an airplane when it caught on fire and exploded, resulting in the victim suffering first-degree burns."

How Do I Know if I Have One of the Affected Power Banks?

Over 429,000 Casely power banks are being recalled. Fortunately, it's easy to confirm if yours is affected.

Look for the device's model number on the back. If it reads "E33A," then stop using it immediately. You can contact Casely to receive a free replacement. For more information, visit the CPSC's website or Casely's recall page.
