The New York Post reported that a one-year-old girl was found in an overturned stroller at the busy tourist destination located in New York City.
Officers Are Looking For the Child's Father
At around 11 p.m. yesterday, the New York Police Department responded to a 911 call about an abandoned child found near West 44th Street and Broadway.
When officers arrived, the child was conscious and alert. Shortly afterward, she was taken to Greenwich Village Hospital in stable condition.
Sources say that officers are now on the lookout for the girl's father, who is reportedly homeless. It is believed after a fight with her mother, he then took the girl to Times Square.
After the stroller tipped over upon hitting the sidewalk last night, the child's father walked away from the scene. Officers say no arrests have been made but the investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses in Times Square Are Shocked
Parents who were in Times Square shared their shock and disgust regarding the tragic incident.
"That's horrible," said Chioma Ortiz, a mother of two who works for Topview Sightseeing.
She then added, "I'm ashamed of that parent. People can't have babies, and you are leaving the one God gave you out here. People go through hell just to have one. That's crazy. I'd never do that. Never."
A tourist from Atlanta, pushing two of her own kids through the area, was stunned when she heard about what had happened.
"That's very irresponsible," she said. "[The father] obviously needs help. Maybe he's mentally unstable, too. I don't know how somebody could do that, especially late at night, and yesterday was a cold day."
Nader Riko is a food vendor in Times Square. He came to work today and then heard about what had happened from his coworker.
"Shocked. I feel sad, sad. It's a baby," he said. "I have [a] baby too, 14 months. I love my baby."
