"His exit comes amid a significant reshaping of Football Night in America," Awful Announcing reported. "Tony Dungy confirmed his departure from the show earlier this offseason, and Awful Announcing reported in February that Rodney Harrison and Jac Collinsworth were also unlikely to return as NBC moved toward a streamlined set that would travel on location each week."
Berry joined NBC following a 15-year career with ESPN. However, it would appear that he's the latest casualty of the companies current overhaul. Still, it's worth noting that Awful Announcing has reported Berry is still under contract.
"While Berry did not respond to multiple requests for comment, sources indicated to Awful Announcing that Berry's contract has not yet expired and that discussions about his return are ongoing."
Should Berry return, a new deal would be unlikely to feature weekly appearance on Football Night In America. Fortunately, the NFL is in a boom period. Berry will likely have multiple job opportunities, should his time with NBC come to an official end.
New Names Have Agreed To Join 'Football Night in America'
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, reports Mike Tomlin will join NBC as the new "centerpiece" of Football Night In America.
"Mike Tomlin, one of the most intriguing NFL TV prospects in years, is headed to NBC to be a top studio analyst on its Sunday night pregame show, "Football Night in America," sources briefed on the move told The Athletic on Tuesday," Marchand reported. "omlin, 54, has been eyed by sports TV executives for more than a decade because of his success as a Super Bowl-winning Steelers coach."
Tomlin will be joined by Maria Taylor, Jason Garrett and Devin McCourty on the set of the show.
Unfortunately for Berry, his next big role will likely come from elsewhere in the media sphere. As networks continue to change their approach, moments like this are unavoidable. Still, regardless of where he lands, he will undoubtedly be an asset and huge draw.
