Currently, no cause of death has been provided. However, it's worth noting that Alan was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis back in 1987.
Shortly after Alan's death, his brother Merrill, 72, released a statement
via Facebook."I was blessed to sit quietly with him," Merrill wrote. "We talked as brothers do, heart to heart. He was struggling, but when I shared a joke or two, he found the strength to chuckle... and then he smiled. My brother has now stepped into the presence of our Father in Heaven with honor and peace. His life was not measured in years, but in love, sacrifice, and purpose."
Merrill's statement then continued by asking fans to remember the good from his brother's life, rather than mourn his loss.
"Don't let your hearts be heavy," the statement continued. "Don't weep for him. Rejoice, knowing that your brother, your friend, your hero is no longer in pain. He is free, he is whole, he is home."
Alan Osmond Played a Key Role in the Osmonds' Success
In 1958, Alan, along with his brothers Merrill, Wayne and Jay formed a barbershop quartet. They were later joined by Donny and Jimmy, their younger siblings, forming the group we came to love: The Osmonds.
The group got its first big break on The Andy Williams Show, where it became a regular performer. However, it was in the 1970s, following the addition of Donny, that the band's success went to another level. The group became global sensations, selling more than 77 million records around the globe.
Alan eventually became a leader for the group, operating as the composer and songwrite. He penned some of the group's biggest hits, including "Down By The Lazy River" and "One Bad Apple."
The Osmonds continued performing together until the early 2000s, with their last shot being their 50th anniversary in 2007.
Now, Alan's memory will live on through his music.
No further details have been provided regarding his passing, including information regarding his impending funeral. It's likely that information will remain private.
