According to the New York Post, the travelers who were heading to Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., were eventually asked to leave the plane. Subsequently, a United Airlines spokesperson explained that the aircraft was screened due to a "security concern."
Were Any Explosives Found on the United Airlines Plane?
Passengers were given food inside the terminal while authorities inspected the Airbus A321neo twinjet. No explosives were found.
The plane eventually left Denver a little after 11:30 p.m. local time. This was more than five and a half hours after its planned departure. It landed at Dulles at 4:20 a.m. this morning.
This situation follows another incident that occurred on Saturday. A United Airlines flight destined for LaGuardia Airport in New York was diverted to Pittsburgh because of suspicions of a possible bomb on board.
This Comes Weeks After Another United Airlines Incident
On March 26, a United Airlines flight from San Francisco almost collided with a Black Hawk helicopter at John Wayne Airport in Southern California.
The plane had 162 passengers and six crew members on board. It was about to make its approach to the airport. At that moment, the helicopter passed directly into the plane's flight path. The two aircraft narrowly missed each other by a couple of hundred feet.
Air traffic control requested an explanation from the crew: "United 589, just want to clarify here. Did you get, uh... just a traffic call reference to the helicopter, or did they restrict your altitude or anything?"
"We had a resolution advisory (an anti-collision alert) for United 589, RA," the pilot responded.
United Airlines said in a statement, "During final approach to John Wayne Airport in Orange County, pilots on United Flight 589 were advised by air traffic control to watch for a military helicopter flying near the airport. They saw the helicopter and also received a traffic alert, which they responded to by leveling the aircraft. The United flight then landed safely."
