New York City Playground Shooting Leaves Teen Dead

Authorities say the incident unfolded at Roy Wilkins Park in Queens at around 6:15 pm local time on Thursday.

Pierre had reportedly been involved in a fight on a basketball court before the situation escalated into gun violence.

According to PEOPLE, the NYPD confirmed the teenager was transported to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators have since released images of a male they believe may be connected to the shooting.

The individual is described as a young man with short dreadlocks, wearing a light gray tracksuit, white trainers, and a black backpack.

Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams also shared footage of the incident on social media, bringing further attention to the case.

Witnesses Describe Chaos as Officials Call for Action

The video shared by Adams appears to show a group of teenagers confronting Pierre before he collapses following what looks like a point-blank gunshot.

"A 15-year-old kid was beaten and shot to death at a Southeast Queens playground yesterday," the caption read. "And somehow this isn't the top story. Credit to AG Letitia James & BP Richards for speaking up."

"Where is everyone else, including @NYCMayor Mamdani? Outrage shouldn't depend on zip code. Every child deserves protection."

Dozens of people were present during the incident, with witnesses describing a chaotic and distressing scene.

"I came over here, I heard a shot go off, so I came running over here to make sure everybody was okay, especially my friends, and I saw a kid lying dead," one witness said.

"And I know him from coming over here to play basketball. Good basketball player, cool kid."

New York Attorney General Letitia James also responded, saying her "heart is heavy" following what she described as a "senseless act of gun violence."

"I will continue to work tirelessly every day to end gun violence in New York," she added.

The NYPD is urging anyone with information to come forward by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) as the investigation continues.
